A week from today is Valentine’s Day. I don’t get giddy about this holiday in the typical girly sense; I am a firm believer that you should not reserve ONE day a year to let the person you love most know about it – that should be an everyday occurrence! I thought, “What better way to reflect on that sentiment than to think of some of some of my favorite lines from movies!” Not the obvious ones – the ones that are dripping with poetry and hidden with everyday words…the kind that when you think about it, it makes you melt a bit inside…
The Quote:
“Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” ~Tom Hanks as Joe Fox in You’ve Got Mail.
Why I Love It:
What’s not to love?! How is this not the most romantic notion ever uttered? Maybe I’m just partial to school and office supplies, but the idea that someone would even think to send a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils as a gift of endearment just makes me feel squishy inside.
The Quote:
“As you wish…” ~Carey Elwes as Wesley in The Princess Bride.
Why I Love It:
Sweet and simple, yet has the deepest meaning; the moment in the movie when Buttercup realizes what Wesley is *really* telling her…melt!
The Quote:
“I have wasted thousands and thousands of kisses on you – kisses that I thought were special because of your lips and your smile and all your color and life. I used to think that was the real you, when you smiled. But now I know you don’t mean any of it. You just save it for all your songs. Shame on me for kissing you with my eyes closed so tight.” ~Liv Tyler as Faye in That Thing You Do
Why I Love It:
What it really boils down to is the line “Shame on me for kissing you with my eyes closed so tight.” Just…wow…isn’t that a wonderful way to express to someone just how much you care? Closing your eyes so tight in the moment of a smooch is just one of those things…you don’t want to open them up because you know that moment is over…you just want to savor every second of just you and your love…just…being…
The Quote:
I’m cheating a bit with this one…it’s actually a song…OK, two songs…
Between Two Lungs – Florence and The Machine
Drumming Song – Florence + The Machine
Why I Love It:
Between Two Lungs – Do I really need to elaborate?! Between her amazingly soulful, passionate vocals, the swells of music in the background, and the powerful lyrics…it just sums everything up in one fierce package.
Drumming Song – We’ve all been there. You’re perfectly normal…then you see him/her. Your heart starts beating a bit quicker than normal…and the next thing you know, your hands are sweaty, your head is spinning, and that ‘drumming noise inside [your] brain…is such an almighty sound.” If you’ve never experienced this feeling, you are missing out one of the most amazingly wonderful feelings in the whole scale of human emotions.
Ok – that’s all for tonight…this was exhausting! 🙂
