Double Feature: Mixed Nuts & Trading Places

In the interest of time, I’m posting a double-feature (heh…see what I did there…) of our next two newly-added flicks for the bracket challenge this year.

Mixed Nuts is not your typical holiday movie, I’ll grant you that. I will even go as far to say it’s not a great movie. Sure, it has an all-star cast, and there are some darkly humorous moments…but coming from Ms. Ephron after Sleepless in Seattle, it frankly falls flat. Come for the dark humor…stay for…Liev Schreiber in a dress.

Trading Places offers us more social commentary than many are willing to accept, I’d wager – especially in a holiday film. Well, in what I’m considering a holiday film. Wealth, greed, race, and social status are all on display – for better or worse. Too real? Maybe…but Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd make it a bit easier to swallow.
