This month’s EtsyBloggers’ blog carnival topic is: “November is National Novel Writing Month. As a blogger, have you ever though of crossing over and writing a book? Have you ever tried NaNoWriMo? Win or lose, tell us about your experience!”
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been interested in writing. I recall as a young child, creating newspapers with my cousins, writing the articles and weather reports and distributing the papers to family members and neighbors. Seems a bit cheesy thinking back, but it is definitely one of my favorite memories of my childhood.
In school I participated in the Young Author’s Conference; it was exciting to see my entry among all the others and I was so happy to receive a ribbon award, even if it was just a non-placement award. I also got to meet Happy the Hobo at that event, which was a huge deal for any kid growing up in my region!
As an adult, like most things, time slips by and writing isn’t as much of a priority. I have so many ideas for short stories but inevitably they never go anywhere. I am inspired in so many ways, and I want to share that with others, but I get stuck and discouraged too easily. I currently have two story lines running through my head – one is a children’s story with a steampunk theme, and the other was actually inspired by a Crate & Barrel Christmas catalog yesterday. I’m keeping the children’s story under wraps for the time being because I have high hopes for it one of these days (if I can even get beyond the first two paragraphs!) but I’d love to share the catalog-inspired story with you!
Story to follow…once I finish it (don’t worry it won’t be too long!) 🙂
