Alright, I realize that’s a pretty general statement. But it’s true – I love me some October. The onset of fall weather, crispity crunchity leaves, the start of hockey season, my wedding anniversary and the beginning of the bestest holiday season ever!
Hockey season – what’s not to love? I mean, the crisp chill of the ice, the exhaust fumes from the Zamboni, and that obnoxious air horn that sounds when your team scores…yeah, that’s great! My husband and I are into hockey big time (in fact, as I type this entry, the Blackhawks game is playing in the background) – he’s a Penguins fan, and I’m a Blackhawks fan. We come together in our love for the local team from Fort Wayne, the Komets. Well that statement sounded a bit awkward!
Let’s move on shall we?
Our anniversary is the 12th of the month…we celebrated 7 years this go around. It’s been great – I am truly blessed to be married to my best friend. We’re like peas and carrots…milk and cookies…cake and ice cream…mmm….ice cream…
And finally, the holiday season starts off with a bang with Halloween – I am a big fan of Halloween! It brings back memories of trick-or-treating when I was a kid; parading around the neighborhood in our wonderful home made costumes (or those great vinyl ones – remember those?!) and getting pillowcases full of candy. I found some old pictures as I was sorting through some things a few weeks ago…they make me smile!
Remember those great plastic pails the McDonald’s Happy Meals used to come in?! Oh the good old days!
Here I am, sporting a very stylish Snoopy costume…
And this was one of the best home made costumes of my childhood…a cardboard box, some tin foil and a headband…next thing you know, you’re a TV!
Last year, my parents had a Halloween party which doubled as a surprise 18th Birthday party for the sassy little jail bird you see in the picture…I was supposed to be Vampira, but there was only so much I could do with what I had to work with.
Mom is continuing the tradition by having another party this year – I still have to finish my costume for that. We also have a hockey game to go to that night – jury is out if I will wear the costume to the game…if I want my husband to sit with me, I will probably leave it at home 🙂
