At The Good Old Hockey Game!

My husband and I have season tickets for the local IHL hockey team, the Fort Wayne Komets. I’ve lived in or near Fort Wayne practically my whole life, but had never been to a hockey game until last year (2008-2009 season), and imediately became a fan of both the team and the sport.  It’s fast-paced, action-packed, and best of all it provides something for us to do during the dreary winter months.

Being the amateur shutterbug I am (wow – that one turns into a bad word quickly with the “u” and the “i” so close together on the keyboard!) I soon discovered how addicting trying to photograph the games were – it is such a challenge to get quality shots when dealing with outside factors such as the scratched glass, fast moving players, obnoxiously bright ice, and terrible lighting…not to mention those awful posts that hold the glass together! Plus, I’ll admit it’s fun to see the looks people give when you break out your camera and large lens 🙂

Here are some photos from the most recent game (Sunday evening, 12/6/09)…after the game, they had a family skate night. There was a very festive feeling in the air as the Christmas music played over the PA, and boys and girls of all ages enjoyed some ice time with a few players.

  1. I really like the symmetry in “Ready for the puck to drop.” It’s like looking through a tunnel of sticks and players.
